Types 1 and 2 Diabetes Awareness

Diabetes mellitus more commonly referred to as Diabetes belongs to a group of related diseases in which a person’s blood sugar level is higher than normal. This occurs either because the body cannot produce enough insulin, or the insulin being produced is not efficiently used by the body. Glucose is used by the body to provide the energy which enables us to perform all of our regular bodily functions. It is manufactured by the liver and derived from the foods we eat, particularly: pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, milk and fruit. The hormone insulin is produced by the pancreas and enables the cells of the liver, muscle and fatty tissue to extract the glucose from the blood and store it in the liver and muscles. When the body does not produce enough insulin, or if the insulin does not function the way it’s meant to, the glucose remains in the blood instead of being absorbed by the cells. Your blood glucose level then becomes elevated resulting in pre-diabetes or diabetes.

TYPE 1 DIABETES (Insulin Dependent Diabetes, or Juvenile Diabetes)

Type 1 diabetes can be acquired at any age, often appearing in children, teenagers, or young adults. The exact cause of the disease has yet to be determined but it is believed that a virus or environmental toxins damage the pancreas or causes the body’s immune system to attack the beta cells of the pancreas (autoimmune reaction). Insulin dependent diabetes is an apt way for describing this type of the disease, once the beta cells have been destroyed, the pancreas’s ability to produce insulin is limited or completely eliminated, making the afflicted completely reliant on insulin administered through artificial means. It’s a lifelong disease and is neither preventable nor curable. Symptoms may develop rapidly within weeks or months.

The symptoms of type 2 diabetes are not easily discernible if they do appear at all; the disease is often only diagnosed when it’s in an advanced stage.

Diabetes Simplified

Diabetes 2 is not an incurable disease. Everyone who does not agree with this statement, or tries to discredit it, should return to the lab and do better research because there are a few natural diabetes cures, or methods, that have proven effective in reversing diabetes.

Diabetes 2 is not a disease; it’s just a warning sign to stop assaulting your body with an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. Change that lifestyle, and you will change your outcome.

The root causes of diabetes 2 can actually be categorized into the following two groups:

Diabetes Foot Pain

The clinical name for diabetes foot pain is peripheral neuropathy, a condition where the small nerves fibers in the feet have become damaged by the effects of diabetes. Peripheral nerves are supposed to transmit information back to the brain, for example when your feet are hot or cold or you just stepped on a sharp object. People may not realize they have been cut or that a cut is becoming infected. Each peripheral nerve has a specific function and a unique job. Damage to the peripheral nervous system interferes with these important signals. Similar to static from a weak radio station, peripheral neuropathy interrupts and distorts the signals to the brain.

Diabetes is the leading cause of peripheral neuropathy in the United States. About 75% of people with diabetes have some degree of nervous system damage.

Diabetes And Hypoglycemia – The Warning Signs

Hypoglycemia symptoms is not a phrase that brings fear to the heart. Anyone hearing from a doctor that they are hypoglycemic is often left feeling totally confused and none the wiser. Nor would they know that diabetes could be an end result of hypoglycemic symptoms.

Diabetes – Control Your Blood Sugar

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which the body does not properly process sugar. While diabetes often runs in families, its onset and course cannot be predicted or prevented. But, with medication, proper nutrition and exercise, diabetics live healthy lives.

Uncontrolled, however, it can cause heart and blood vessel disorders that may lead to blindness, gangrene, kidney disease, and even death.

There are two basic types of diabetes. Type I, the more severe, is caused by a deficiency of the hormone insulin. With Type II, or noninsulin-dependent diabetes, there may be enough insulin, but the body’s cells have trouble using it.

In either form, excess sugar builds up in the blood because insulin is unable to regulate it. The sugar then “spills” into the urine, where it is excreted from the body. Frequent urination or excessive thirst often signals high blood sugar levels.

Having diabetes means you need to eat foods from each food group. Include breads and cereals, milk products, vegetables, fruits, meat and fish, nuts and legumes, and fats and oils.

Minimize sugars and fats while maximizing starches and proteins. The old standard of avoiding carbohydrates no longer applies. In fact, a diet in which 50 to 60% of total calories is obtained through complex carbohydrates is recommended. Keep fat to 30% of calories.

Control your caloric intake; being overweight makes diabetes worse. Weight management, especially in Type II diabetes, is crucial. Losing even a small amount of weight can improve or even normalize blood sugar levels in older diabetics.

Type I diabetics must eat meals on a regular schedule in order to balance their injections of insulin. All diabetics need to space their meals throughout the day so as to minimize extreme highs and lows of blood sugar levels.

If you haven’t been physically active, start slowly and build the intensity. Consult your doctor before starting your exercise program. Be aware that strenuous exercise can throw you out of balance by lowering blood glucose too much; this could lead to hypoglycemia.

Moderate exercise helps lower blood sugar by “burning” it off, making tissues more responsive to insulin and reducing weight. It also reduces fat and cholesterol in the bloodstream and lowers blood pressure. This is important because diabetics are at high risk for heart and vascular diseases.

Babies born to diabetics have a greater risk of birth defects than others. To minimize the risk:

  • Get your body in the best possible condition three to six months before you conceive. If you must lose weight, do it under supervision of your doctor.
  • Choose a doctor trained to care for diabetic mothers and their babies.
  • Closely monitor your blood glucose before and during your pregnancy.
  • Breastfeeding is good for both you and the baby, but it will set up new conditions for controlling blood sugar.

What Is Diabetes Health?

Anyone who has never known a person who is a diabetic probably doesn’t know too much about the condition and might ask “What is diabetes health? Is it different from the health of someone who doesn’t have diabetes?” The answer to the latter question is yes, it is different because the nature of the condition makes different parts of the body react differently to those areas in a non-diabetic.

Diabetes is a condition where either the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin to lower the levels of glucose in the blood (Type 1 Diabetes) or the body cannot properly use the insulin which is produced (Type 2 Diabetes) or sometimes both. As a consequence, the glucose levels become abnormally high (known as hyperglycaemia) thus damaging the cells which the glucose would otherwise be nourishing. Over time the retina, nerves, kidneys and blood vessels can be affected.

As a consequence, anyone who is diagnosed diabetic needs to takes special care over certain aspects of their health.

• Eyes. Retinal damage caused by diabetes can cause blindness. A diabetic must see an ophthalmologist at least every year to ensure that no deterioration is taking place (or already had prior to diagnosis).

• Nerves. Diabetes can cause a loss of feeling in the extremities, particularly the feet. A diabetic should never cut their own toe nails but should see a qualified chiropodist specialising in diabetes about every six weeks to have their nails trimmed, hard skin removed and nerves assessed. Any damage to the feet or legs should be treated immediately by a health care professional to prevent infection setting in. Failure to do so could ultimately result in amputation of the foot or leg.

• Kidneys. Damage to the kidneys can lead to kidney failure so a urine test every three months is essential so that a doctor can assess what impact the diabetes or the medication is having.

• Arteries. Diabetes speeds up the formation of plaque in the arteries which can lead to thromboses, heart attack and poor circulation in the arms and legs. Regular blood tests can detect this.

• Blood. High blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides can result from diabetes all of which can contribute to cardio vascular and kidney disease. A blood test at least every three months will enable the monitoring of these levels. An adjustment to lifestyle or medication can usually sort out any problems quickly.

In addition, a diabetic will need to ensure that they take their prescribed medication regularly and adapt their eating, drinking and smoking habits to help the medication to do its job.

Without enough knowledge as to what causes diabetes, it can seem there is no diabetes cure.

Coping Rather Than Curing

Currently, the medical establishment advise to use some form of the glycemic index to keep blood sugar low and to get more exercise. The problem I have with this is that it is a coping mechanism. It is not addressing the root of diabetes.

That means it is not addressing why insulin is being stopped from going into the cells in a diabetes type 2 condition or why insulin is not being produced by the pancreas in a Diabetes type 1 condition.

A diabetes cure has to consider the root causes of these two situations. It has to be able to answer why it is occurring in the first place.

While most doctors look at diabetes as a condition, I look at it as a symptom of an underlying health imbalance. To create a diabetes cure you need to stop only focusing on treating symptoms and focusing on.

Insulin Resistance

For Type 2 diabetes the question that needs to be answered is, “Why are the cells not allowing insulin into the cells?”

Your cells have insulin receptors. When insulin reaches these receptors they cause the cells to allow insulin into the cells. Insulin is combined with glucose and it is insulin that drives the glucose into the cells to provide fuel.

Insulin not only combines with glucose, it combines with protein to bring protein into the cells as well. When the cells are not receptive to insulin, glucose does not go inside and your cells do not get energy.

This leaves a high amount of sugar in your blood. This high level of glucose is called hyperglycemia. This state of hyperglycemia, if it becomes chronic can produce a very wide variety of serious complications over a period of years, including kidney damage, neurological damage, cardiovascular damage, damage to the retina etc.

Needless to say, a diabetes cure will help many people with many other conditions as well.

So the current treatment of this is to lower the blood sugar levels in the blood through diet and drugs.

What should be solved is how to get the insulin to be used again. In other words, the goal is to restore insulin sensitivity again. When the cells allow insulin into the cells, blood glucose will go into the cells and the blood glucose levels will drop down to normal. This is the way it is supposed to work normally.

A diabetes cure should be there to help make things work normally again.

Type 1 Diabetes

With diabetes type 1, the problem is not that the cells are not receptive to insulin. The problem is that the pancreas, the gland that produces insulin is either not producing insulin or not producing enough insulin.

So in this case, the blood glucose levels are high because there is not enough insulin there to tell the cells to open up and take the glucose in.

This is hyperglycemia caused by lack of insulin production where as diabetes type 2 causes hyperglycemia due to the normal levels of insulin not being able to be used.

Developing A Cure

In my diabetes cure, I resolve this by removing all or as many causes of insulin resistance (diabetes type 2) and all the causes of the lowered or non-existent insulin levels (diabetes type 1).

There are many substances that cause insulin resistance inside foods that many are not aware of. This includes the medical establishment. Without knowing this a diabetes cure cannot be created.

High fructose corn syrup and monosodium glutamate are two of several examples.

These two substances are often not listed by their name but are in many foods that are sold and eaten. Also, they are both in foods that we would not think they would be in. Gatorade, for example, is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup is what has replaced sugar in almost all processed products.

Monosodium glutamate is also in many packaged foods but under different names such as: Gelatin, Calcium Caseinate, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP), Textured Protein, Monopotassium glutamate, Hydrolyzed Plant Protein (HPP), Yeast Extract Glutamate, Autolyzed Plant Protein, Yeast food or nutrient, Glutamic Acid Sodium, Caseinate Autolyzed Yeast, Vegetable Protein Extract, Senomyx (wheat extract labeled as artificial flavor).

There is also a substance called Alloxan. This is a chemical byproduct that is created when flour is bleached. Alloxan is also a chemical used in laboratories to inject into mice to MAKE THEM DIABETIC. Alloxan causes insulin resistance and enough of it causes diabetes. This is how diabetes is studied – alloxan is injected into mice, they become diabetic and then they are studied.

In the supermarkets and many common foods available, you can guarantee that all white colored flour in foods is chemically bleached flour that also contains alloxan. This is white bread, doughnuts, bagels, starchy pastries, and the many different varieties of snacks out there.

These are just an example of the hidden substances in society that contribute to diabetes. Taking these out of the diet and the environment will be part of a diabetes cure.

Correct Exercise

There is also the factor of exercise. Doctors will tell people to exercise. But, that’s all they say. You often are not sure what kind of exercise to do.

What I found is there are types and kinds of exercise that can exacerbate the diabetic condition. I developed simple indexes and indicators to show whether an exercise is helpful for reversing the diabetic condition or making it worse.

A diabetic cure has to show you how to sift through the vast array of exercises to find what is going to assist a diabetic cure.

A Cure Is Available

Long story short, there is much more to diabetes than what is popularly discussed and known. As one of the main KILLERS of Americans, I am dedicating more and more of my time, coaching and writing for a diabetes cure.

A diabetes cure is something that reverses or alleviates the problems with insulin and not to cope with it.

There IS a way to reverse or dramatically alleviate diabetes.
